Slam Dunk was one of the legendary basketball anime of the 1990s that continued for six years. The manga was a huge success at the time, selling over 120 million copies in Japan. The recent news of the return of Slam Dunk is something really nostalgic for all of us. With Salm Dunk returning in the fall of 2022, our expectations have already been raised enough. With the number of sports anime increasing, we can be sure that the competition is high, however, Salm Dunk is one of the oldest that has inspired other anime.

The first announcement of his return was made through Twitter via Inoue. According to the schedule, the film will be released in the latter part of the year. It will be a great inspiration for the current generation towards basketball. The characters are great for engaging even people who aren’t really into basketball as a game.

Slam Dunk has references to today’s NBA players like Michael Jordan and Patrick Ewing. The manga clearly shows Inous’ clear dedication towards sports. We have seen them pay tribute to athletes to anime characters.

The main Slam Dunk account has shared a new sneak peek of the upcoming movie via their Twitter account. However, the teaser did not reveal much about the upcoming story. It’s still a big secret. We can assume that the film will be a contribution to the author’s great love for sports, specifically basketball. Whether it’s the older generation or the current generation, everyone is waiting for the return of the greatest sports anime of all time.

We have seen an increase in the number of audiences watching sports anime like Haikyuu, Yuri on Ice, and many others. The sports anime genre is as famous as any other genre and has inspired millions of age groups of people to take up sports. The 2021 Tokyo Olympics were a great example of this. However, one day he is approached by a cute girl who asks “do you like basketball?”. Sakuragi falls head over heels for the girl without even knowing much about him. Sakuragi immediately replies “I love it”. His motivation to play basketball stems from his crush on Haruko. Sakuragi, who doesn’t even know how to dribble a basketball, starts training. However, Haruko had her eyes on another freshman known as Kaeda Rukawa, who is a rookie superstar. The freshman couple and the rest of the Shohoku basketball team begin their season with their sights set on a national championship. The story then follows Hanamichi’s motivation to play basketball and master the game.

Viz Media published all 31 volumes of the manga in English. Cinedigm published volume one of the first season of Slam Dunk on an English dub-only DVD in May 2015. Before ending direct distribution in North America, Toei published four DVD volumes of the anime with an English version in 2005.
